Day in the Life: Production Operations

Kelvin Chong has worn a few hats during his time at Zipform Digital. Starting out in customer service before moving into a Business Analyst role, and now working as Production Process Coordinator, he’s had a front-row seat to many different parts of the business along the way.
We caught up with Kelvin to chat about his career journey, life behind the scenes in production, and the day-to-day pace of the role.
What has been your career path with Zipform Digital?
I started my journey in customer service, gaining valuable firsthand experience in understanding our customers and day-to-day flow of operations. From there, I transitioned into a Business Analyst role, where I had the opportunity to contribute to a range of projects and develop a deeper understanding of how the business operates behind the scenes.
Now, as a Production Process Coordinator, I bring those experiences together to help keep processes running smoothly. It’s been a great journey so far – and still very much a work in progress, with plenty more to learn along the way.
What’s the first thing you do every day when you get to work?
No two days look quite the same, but they all start the same way – with a good double-shot cappuccino. Once I’m properly fuelled, it’s time to bring structure and order to the day ahead.
What does a normal day look like?
My morning usually starts with a scan of emails to catch any updates or red flags, followed by reviewing the day’s schedule. From there, it’s all about making sure jobs are lined up, materials are in place, and production teams have everything they need to hit the ground running.
Throughout the day, I stay close to the production floor, making regular rounds to ensure nothing has been missed and stepping in to support job lodgements where needed. It’s a balance of planning ahead while staying agile in the moment, whether that means clearing blockers, reshuffling priorities or helping keep operations on track. When time allows, I also contribute to special projects focused on improving workflows and delivery.
How has AI impacted your role?
While AI has become a valuable tool in our daily workflow, roles like this still rely heavily on human judgement, on-the-ground coordination, timely decision-making and clear communication. After all, even the smartest tools still need someone who knows which buttons to press – and when.
How do you manage the work/life balance?
Once the workday is done, I swap screens for soil. It’s not glamorous, but spending time in the garden is my way of switching off, staying grounded and keeping the work/life balance in check.
